Drums Recycle

In industrial waste management, metal drums and containers are considered high-value assets. Unlike light plastics, these materials have a high weight-to-value ratio, making them the most profitable part of your recycling stream.

During our Valuation Audit, we specifically look for these six metal recyclable items to help you maximize your rebate:

1. Tight-Head Steel Drums (210L / 55 Gallon)

Often called “Bung Drums,” these are the industry standard for transporting low-viscosity liquids like oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Because they are made of heavy-duty cold-rolled steel, they are highly valuable for both scrap metal recovery and professional reconditioning.

2. Open-Head Steel Drums

Recognizable by their fully removable lids secured with a bolt or lever-lock ring. These are used for thicker substances like greases, powders, or solids. The lid, the ring, and the drum body are all 100% recyclable steel.

3. Stainless Steel Specialty Drums

Used primarily in the pharmaceutical, food-grade, and high-end chemical industries. These drums are the “Gold Standard” of waste. Stainless steel (often Grade 304 or 316) fetches a significantly higher price per ton than regular carbon steel.

4. Aluminium Shipping Drums

Lightweight but incredibly durable and rust-resistant. Aluminium drums are often used for specialized flammable liquids or high-purity chemicals. Because aluminium takes 95% less energy to recycle than to produce from scratch, we offer premium buying rates for these.

5. IBC Outer Metal Cages

Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) consist of a plastic tank inside a galvanized steel cage. While the plastic tank is recyclable, the steel cage is the high-value component. We collect damaged or “end-of-life” cages to be processed as high-grade scrap.

6. Small Steel Pails & 20L Tins

Commonly used for paints, solvents, and adhesives. Though smaller than full-sized drums, when collected in bulk, these tinplate and steel pails add significant weight to your recycling metrics and contribute directly to your consistent income stream.

💡 The “Clean Drum” Advantage

The value of your metal waste increases significantly if the drums are “RCRA Empty” (containing no more than 2.5cm of residue). As part of our service, we can advise your team on how to properly prep these drums to ensure you receive our highest competitive buying rates.
